Fourteen people have been killed and 63 others injured after a speeding passenger bus crashed and overturned on a motorway in Eastern Pakistan last evening.

Official reports from both the office of the Prime Minister and Deputy Police Commissioner Quratulain Malik mentioned that the crash occurred in the town of Kallar Kahar in Punjab province.

Shortly after the crash, emergency respondents rushed to the scene to retrieve the victims and transport them to a hospital nearby where the 16 victims were pronounced dead while the remaining 63 victims were hospitalized in critical condition.

DCP Malik also shared that an investigation has been launched into the incident.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif relayed condolences to the victim’s families and also authorized the relevant health authorities to provide the best care for the injured victims.

This incident also comes a month after 40 people were killed after a bus carrying 44 passengers crashed into a pillar, plummeted off a bridge in southern Pakistan, and caught fire on Sunday, January 29.

Among the deceased were women and children.

Based on official reports, the cause of the accident was primarily linked to speeding.
