National 200 meters Champion Andrew Hudson, will not be eligible to compete for Jamaica at the World Championships this month in Eugene, Oregon, after it was revealed that the American-born sprinter’s clearance for citizenship won’t be recognized until July 28.

The news came to light after Jamaica’s team list for the Championships was released on Thursday, which saw Hudson’s omission, despite winning the 200m event at the Jamaica National Championships.

Hudson was reportedly one of three athletes who applied for, and were approved by the Jamaica Athletic Administrative Association (JAA) to switch allegiance to their ancestral country.

The JAAA’s had reportedly expressed optimism in the expeditious clearance for the Athlete’s complete switch in time for the championships however, it wasn’t to be.

In a release however, the association stated that;” the athletes will not receive clearance in time for the games.  Hudson will as a result not be eligible to compete for Jamaica until July 28th.”

This means Akeem Bloomfield who finished fourth in last Sunday’s final, had now been elevated to the third and final spot as Jamaica’s representative in the men’s 200 meters.

Jamaica’s 200-meter team also includes 100 meters champion Yohan Blake who finished second behind Hudson and Nigel Ellis who finished in third place.
