546 COVID-19 cases, 14 deaths

Jamaica yesterday recorded 546 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number to 79,673.

There were 14 additional deaths, increasing the figure to 1,791. Ten deaths are under investigation, increasing the figure to 270.

The victims are an 81-year-old woman from St Catherine, a 61-year-old man from Kingston and St Andrew, a 66-year-old woman from Kingston and St Andrew, a 59-year-old man also from Kingston and St Andrew, a 54-year-old woman from St Elizabeth, a 64-year-old man from St Elizabeth, a 72-year-old man from St Elizabeth, a 94-year-old man also from St Elizabeth, an 87-year-old woman from Manchester, an 80-year-old man from Manchester, a 91-year-old man from Manchester, a 76-year-old woman from Manchester, a 90-year-old man from Manchester and a 76-year-old woman also from Manchester.

The deaths occurred between August 31 and September 16.

The positivity rate decreased from 37.7 per cent to 30.6 per cent. Number of tests: 1,976

Of the 546 new cases, St Catherine accounted for the highest number with 148.

Kingston and St Andrew, in the meantime, accounted for the second-highest number of cases with 127; Manchester followed with 42; St Thomas with 40; St James with 35; St Ann 33; St Elizabeth and Trelawny with 24 each; Clarendon 23; Portland 17; Hanover 14; Westmoreland 13 and St Mary with 6.

On Friday, Jamaica recorded 537 COVID-19 cases and 5 deaths.
