Investigators assigned to the St James Narcotics Division have seized 8.5 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of US$400,000 (JMD 60,858,800.00) at the Sangster International Airport on Saturday.

Reports indicate that at about 3:20 p.m. a British National was checking in to board a flight to Manchester, England when his luggage was searched.

It is understood that the drug was found concealed in false compartments of two of his bags and was seized. Subsequently, the passenger was arrested on reasonable suspicion of breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

His identity however is being withheld pending further investigations.

This seizure comes a week after 1000 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of US 27 million or J$3.7 billion was seized at the Ian Fleming International Airport in St Mary on Friday September 24.

The drugs were found during an operation that involved intelligence support from the United States law enforcement agencies. However no arrests have since been made in relation to the seizure.
