The National Stadium is set to remain an empty venue for the Reggae Boyz when they face Mexico on January 27 for their crucial CONCACAF World Cup Qualifier.

Press Secretary of Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Earl Bailey, shared the news via his Twitter, stating the about-turn by the government from its initial approval for limited allowance of fans.

“Will fans be allowed to watch the Reggae Boyz vs Mexico and Costa Rica? The answer is no. After approval for 5,000 fans, the government changed its mind. Empty stadium again…” the tweet read.

It was announced last year, that 5,000 vaccinated patrons would be allowed to watch the Boyz in action when they resume their World Cup dreams at home.

The decision is a dramatic change of stance to the federation as limited fans were allowed inside the National Stadium for their on November 16, 1-1 tie against the US.

The Reggae Boyz are currently sixth in the eight-team octagonal qualification format on seven points from eight games played.

The team is in a must-win situation for their remaining six games if they are to stand a credible chance of Qualification to the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

They are set to face Peru in a Friendly at Lima, Peru on Thursday.
