Jamaica will be represented in the World Rugby Sevens Series scheduled for Malaga, Spain, after the senior men team were added as the next best team, following the withdraw of Samoa from the tournament.
The news was announced on Tuesday by the organisers of World Rugby Sevens via their social media.
The Jamaicans were placed in Pool C alongside the USA, Spain, and Argentina.
The Samoas were forced out of the competition due to COVID restrictions preventing them from travelling. New Zealand was also forced out due to travel restrictions.
The ‘Reggae Crocs’, who have been making steady strides over the years, earned their first-ever Rugby Sevens series win last year with a 10-5 victory over Chile, which would have assisted toward their points for qualification.
The team, which is the first Caribbean team to qualify for a world tournament, will be making their fourth appearance in the format.
The Crocs had an outstanding year last season claiming the Fireminds Rugby Americas North Sevens tournaments in October.
The tournament is set to kick off on January 21 and end on the 23rd in Malaga, Spain.
