After nearly a year to the date when Denmark football captain, Christian Eriksen, suffered a cardiac arrest, the creative midfielder returned to the Copenhagen field to score in their 3-0 win over Serbia.

Eriksen netted in the 57th minute to complete a comprehensive victory by the Danes in a highly competitive game.

This followed goals from Joakim Maehle and Jesper Lindstrom scored in minutes 15 and 53 as they wrapped up their final international friendly before the close of the international break.

It was the second in two games Eriksen put himself on the scoresheet after netting in their 4-2 loss to the Netherlands on Saturday. “It’s not the final chapter, it’s just the beginning of the football career that continues,” said the 30-year-old.

Speaking to the media after the game, Eriksen expressed his excitement in returning. “It was a bit of a break for a few months, now it’s getting the football back on track. It was the first-time being captain and walking out here. I’ve been a captain before, but not here,” he said.

He added “To walk out at the national stadium as captain for the first time was special. “To lead the lads out was very emotional and something I can be proud of. It was a lovely feeling.”

Eriksen will be expected to suit up for EPL club Brentford when they tackle Chelsea on Saturday April 2.
