Intense showdown expected between JC and KC tonight

With just six finals slated for today (Day 4), the ISSA Boys and Girls Championship is expected to be another intense showdown between main contenders Kingston College (KC) and Jamaica College (JC). 

Both teams are set to compete in the jumps, vaults as well as hurdled events as they jostle for crucial points heading into Saturday’s grand finale. 

The sand pit is where the action will begin with Boys class 3 Long jump set as the first duel between the colleges on Friday. 

KC has two competitors in the final including Amani Phillips who easily qualified with 5.74 for the third best overall leap in the prelims. 

The battle for gold is however expected to between JC’s Michael-Andre Edwards who had the second-best qualifying jump with 5.99m and event favorite Courtney Kinglock of KC who is only boy to leap beyond six metres with 6.10m. 

KC is also expected to score big in the class 1 boys triple Jump, with Long Jumps Gold Medalist Jaydon Hibbert leading all commers with 16.01m. while JC’s Stafon Roach 15.04 is also expected to grab points in the hop step leap event. 

The Pole Vault which is another hot ticket see’s both schools logging two competitors for the event with Courtney Hanchar Jafar Moore going up against Nicholai Blossom and Noel Patty of JC. 

They will also have competition from Calabar high’s Julian Francis and Leighton Johnson. 

The Boys open steeple chase is also a discipline which may be wide open with both schools having two athletes in the hurdled distance event. 

Staying on the hurdles, the 110 hurdles will be the signature event of the night with both JC and KC qualifying maximum two athletes for the classes 1 and 2. 

The results of today’s finals will most likely curate a concrete synopsis of who will walk away with the 2022 championship honors. 

Points standings coming into today’s set of finals see’s the Boys from North Street, maintain their dominance with 133 points, moving up from 119 points, followed by JC who also gained with 92.33 moving up from 86.33 points, after the tabulation of the Boys decathlon was added. 

Saturday (Day 5) will see all relays finals including the 4×100, 4×400 and 4×800 metres concluding the 110th staging.
