Reigning 100 metres World Champion Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce made it twice as nice for the Jamaicans at the Prefontaine Classic, after easily claiming the women’s 200 meters in a season’s best for Jamaica sprint on sweep Saturday.
Fraser Pryce who would have seen compatriot Elaine Thompson Herah take the shorter sprint earlier in the meet, kept the Jamaican momentum flowing, as she in like-manner comfortably dismissed the competitors.
The Former Double Olympic sprint champion was the dominant figure in the half event as she led from start to finish to carry over her trade mark bullet start and showed her strength over the distance to maintain her advantage to the finish.
Despite not being significantly challenged, she posted a season’s best time of 22.41 seconds, which bettered her 22.79 seconds set on April 23 at the MVP Velocity Fest 11, National Stadium, Kingston.
She finished ahead of American Brittany Brown 22.74 seconds for second and Athonique Strachan of the Bahamas with 22.76 for third.
The result marks a good day for Jamaica who completed sprint sweep in the two events.
It also acts as confidence booster for Fraser Pryce who suggested she will be doubling in both the 100 and 200 meters at the national championships next month while speaking at the press conference for the meet on Friday.
The prospect sets up mouth watering duel among the Jamaican ahead of the World champs set for July in Eugene, Oregon.
