Anderson says he knew he could have broken the record

 Jamaican Junior athlete Navasky Anderson, says he knew he could have broken the National 800 meters record after last night’s performance at the NCAA championships finals, in Oregon.

Speaking during a post-race interview Anderson said that breaking the National record was always a thought of his and he knew it was just down to time.

“it’s always something I had in the back of my head but I wasn’t readily equipped with the skills but I was always ready to take it on whenever I got the opportunity, and today was really a great day to execute that ” Anderson explained after taking silver in the event.

He broke the national 800 meters record after his second-place finish in the finals of men’s 800m at the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field, Eugene on Friday.

Anderson’s time of 1:45.02 seconds, lowered Seymour Newman’s 45-year-old national record of 1:45.21.

The Mississippi State student athlete, finished behind Texas Tech’s Moad Zahavi who won in 1:44.49 seconds, with Brandon Miller of Texas A&M third with 1:45.09 seconds

 The performance also bettered the World Championship qualifying time for the event which is 1:45.20 seconds.

The former 1500 meters runner added that he didn’t regret stepping down in distance and believed he has more in store going forward despite second place on the day and was pleased with the performance.

Anderson has also made his intension known about winning at the World Championships.

“No regrets about today, I’m Happy, I’m thankful because Ima get what I came for again in a few weeks here at the world championships” he added.
