Ending the new year on a high, reggae’s rising sensation Lila Ike has been named one of the Most Interesting Artistes of 2020.
VICE Magazine listed the emerging artiste as one “who kept us hopeful during a miserable year”.
Lila Ike is the protege of reggae singer Protege and is signed to his Protoje’s In.Digg.Nation collective.
“… With her haunting vocals and poignant lyrics, Jamaica native Lila Ike is among a new wave of talented women taking over the island,” the article stated.
It added:
“Rather than following reggae’s rigid blueprint, Ike fuses R&B, soul, jazz and dancehall with her admiration for conscious reggae greats like Garnett Silk and Sizzla.”
Lila released her debut EP The Experience in May of this year.
The EP featured songs such as I Spy, Second Chance, Thy Will and her breakout single, Where I’m Coming From.
VICE Magazine also awarded her I Spy single as one of The 100 Beat Songs of 2020.
