A South African male has died after guzzling a bottle of Jägermeister in just two minutes to win a £10 bet at a South African liquor store.
Jägermeister is a German liquor with an alcohol by volume of 35 percent, or US 70 proof, however details emerged that fake Moët and Jägermeister bottles have recently flooded the region, with some using expiring cleaning and cough-syrup products.
Reports indicate that the unidentified male who is said to be in his early twenties visited the store in the Mashamba village in Limpopo and took part in the challenge to see who could drink a bottle the fastest.
Minutes after guzzling the 35 percent spirit however, the victim collapsed. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile an investigation has been launched by the Limpopo Police. In addition, an inquest has also been opened into apparent misuse of alcohol that took place at one of the local liquor outlets at Mashamba Village where the patrons allegedly participated in what they called a ‘drinking competition’.
