Officers assigned to the US Customs and Border Patrol seized a total of 1935 packages of cocaine concealed in baby wipes at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge on Friday.
A news release outlined that officers from CBP’s Office of Field Operations sent a trailer truck, which claimed to be carrying only baby wipes, for a second inspection.
During the inspection, trained canines and officers discovered 1,935 packages with around 1,533 pounds of alleged cocaine.
Meanwhile Port Director at the Laredo Port of Entry Alberto Flores outlined that this seizure serves as a preventative measure carried out by officers to ensure that illegal substances are not imported in the country.
“Officers assigned to CBP cargo facilities ensure effective border security by preventing and countering the flow of suspected narcotics entering the country ” he noted
“This seizure is a prime example of border security management and how it helps prevent dangerous narcotics from reaching our communities ” Flores added.
In the interim, a preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Customs and Border Patrol investigators to ascertain the destination of the drugs.
