Despite striker Raheem Sterling finding the net in back-to-back games for Chelsea, it could not prevent the former English Premiere league champions from slumping to an upset 2-1 loss to Southampton on Tuesday.

The Blues who showed character in their 2-1 win over Leicester playing with 10-men for the majority of the game seemed to have been still revelling in that result as the current form was far from indicative of that display.

Raheem Sterling’s hunger for goals is the only thing which seemed constant for the blues after opening the scoring in minute 23 to give the ‘Blues’ the lead, with his third goal in the three games to break the deadlock.

The London club who seemed to be playing with confidence following the goal seemingly got confident as they conceded a 23rd minutes equalizer by Southampton’s Lavia.

That goal seemed to be the impetus for the saints who were coming off a  1-0 defeat by Manchester United in their last game.

An encounter they perhaps felt they could have gotten something from. However, the saints would not leave empty-handed this time around as they maintained pressure on the Londoners which eventually paid dividends just before halftime.

Adam Armstrong’s added time goal proved to be the deciding static for three points as it remained as is, in the following 45 minutes.

The result is the second win for the Saints who now move ahead of Chelsea to seventh on goal difference with seven points.

Chelsea left to contemplate their attacking woes as they slip to eighth in the standings
