Barcelona Women sets world record transfer of City midfielder

La Liga team Barcelona Women have broken the world record for the transfer fee paid for female a player of with the acquisition of former Manchester City midfielder Keira Walsh.

The Spanish team is reported to have shelled out £350,000 for the 25-year-old England international.

 Walsh who was one of the stars in England’s Euro 2022 title success had been with City since 2014 and had one year left on her contract with the team.

The steep price tag (for women’s club football) was said to be the third offer by the club to secure the midfielder which came just before Wednesday’s 11 pm Spanish transfer deadline.

The deal is said to be a three-year contract with La Liga champions breaking the previous record of £250,000 paid for Denmark forward Pernille Harder who joined Chelsea from Wolfsburg in 2020.

Walsh will now join up with former teammate Lucy Bronze who left City left the English club in the summer transfer window.

Walsh had won the 2016 WSL title, three FA Cups, and four League Cups with City.
