Regina King has admitted she feels more “interesting” as she approaches 50.
The Watchmen star celebrates her milestone birthday on January 15 and feels that she brings “so much more to the table” than she did when she was younger.
In an interview with British Vogue magazine, she said:
“I feel like I’m so much more interesting now, as a soon to be 50-year-old woman, than I was at 25.
“I can bring so much more to the table. I think that’s the same for all people. You may not have the stamina that you had at 25, but what you know now? So much better.”
Regina – who made her directorial feature film debut with One Night in Miami last year – recently explained how she had no plans to “compromise” her “integrity” as she discovers where she wants to be in life.
The Oscar-winning actress told InStyle magazine:
“Whatever is successful is for that artist. What works for me doesn’t work for Meryl. What works for me is that I am not making lateral moves, that I am on an upward trajectory. A lot of this I’m discovering along the way, but I am not compromising my integrity. I’m always continuing to dream.”
The 49-year-old star also confessed that she is still trying to process the tragedies and difficulties faced across the world in 2020 – including the deaths of basketball star Kobe Bryant and actor Chadwick Boseman.
Regina said:
“I’m still in a place of, ‘F***. We lost Kobe and Chadwick. And we had an election!’ My mind is exhausted. What I’m doing to get through it is just being honest about that. I’m having moments when I feel like it is really hard to be optimistic, so I’m sharing that with friends and family. I have those women who help prop me up when I’m feeling like, ‘I don’t know about you guys, but I think this is Armageddon. I don’t know how to get through this.'”
