Former Argentina International Gonzalo Higuain is calling time on his professional football career.
The Argentine who has been playing for Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise Inter Miami for the last six-years shared his intention to hang up his boots at the end of the current season during a press conference on Monday.
“My biggest motivation is helping my teammates, I think the best gift that I can give to my teammates is to be able to retire as a champion with them.”
“Because they’ve been there with me, they’ve seen me during my downs this year and they’ve helped me throughout this path.”
“Not only players, but physios staff, my brother, my family and this is for all of them as well.”
“I want to retire here as a champion, like I deserve to retire and it would be a very special dream,” Higuain reiterated
“I know there’s two games left and we really hope that the fans come to the stadium and pack the stadium because it’s very important for us.”
“And then once we get to playoffs, the story is different and my dream is to retire as a champion with all my teammates.”
Higuain came to Inter as a free agent in 2016 following the back end of a credible domestic stint with Juventus where they won a third Serie A title.
Higuain has scored 27 times and paired with 14 assists in 65 league appearances during his four years at the Miami-based franchise.
Inter is set to play Orlando City on Wednesday before tackling Montreal on Sunday.
The David Beckham-led Miami franchise who is seventh in the East on 45 points, is aiming to secure the final playoff spot.
