Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has been named among Denmark’s preliminary World Cup squad for the Qatar-hosted tournament in November.

The squad inclusion marks a remarkable turnaround for Eriksen, who infamously collapsed during Denmark’s  Euro 2020 game against Finland last year and had life-saving treatment on the pitch.

21 players of the 26-man squad have been revealed thus far with the final five players said to be announced following the last round of European fixtures.

“Many things can happen,” said Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand speaking to the press about the remaining spots  “It’s unsolvable, but it’s the right way to do it – there are two games left for many of our players, and that can easily change things.”

“There are 10 or 12 players still in contention for the last five spots” he added.

The final squad must be delivered to Fifa by 13 November, before the tournament starts on 20 November.

Following Eriksen’s cardiac arrest at the Euros, the former Tottenham payer had an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) device fitted in his chest to allow him to continue competitively playing.

The 30-year-old had initially joined EPL team Brentford on a six-month deal at the start of the year after agreeing to terminate his contract with Italian Inter Milan prematurely to comply with Seriea A rules which prevent players with an ICD to play in the league.

Following a remarkable comeback in form, he was later drafted by current team Manchester United  in the summer.

In January, he said it was “a goal, a dream” to play for his country again in front of their home crowd at Parken Stadium and at this year’s World Cup.

They take on Tunisia on 22 November.
