Bezos pledges to donate half of his wealth to charity

Billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, is set to give away a vast amount of his wealth, after pledging to dedicate at least half of his accumulated funds to charitable causes over his lifetime.

In a recent interview with US news media house CNN Bezos who’s worth US124 billion dollars, alongside his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez, shared his intentions to among other causes, fight climate change and to support societal “unifiers.”

In a candid conversation with the outlet, Bezos offered some specifics of his plans, instead focusing on a vision to give generously to individuals who work to fight “division” in American politics and public life.

“The hard part is figuring out how to do it in a levered way,” Bezos said.

 No timeline or specific dollar amount was given.

Bezos and Sanchez, recently a US $100 million grant to Country pop icon Dolly Parton to be disbursed to charities of the singer’s choice.

The 58-year-old is reported to have made a similar donation in 2021 to CNN contributor Van Jones and chef José Andrés.

Bezos’ plans join fellow ultra-wealthy Billionaires such as Warren Buffet, Bill Gates and Bezos’ ex-wife MacKenzie Scott who have pledged to donate at least half of their wealth to charity.

The former Amazon head honcho has committed US $10 billion to the Bezos Earth Fund in 2020.
