Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has cleared the air on the reported disruption among his countrymen following his bombshell interview criticizing his Manchester United club.
Days after his explosive interview with Piece Morgan where he leveled scathing criticisms of the Premier League team, videos began to circulate online of seemingly not-too-friendly interactions between Ronaldo and some of his team Portugal teammates.
Speaking to the press on Monday, Ronaldo dismissed such perceptions as media framing and not a truthful representation of the current situation.
“In my life it’s always timing is always timing.” From your side [media] is obviously easy to give your opinions and write things sometimes truths, sometimes.. most times lies” he stated.
“The timing for me is my timing, I don’t have to worry about what others think” I’m totally convinced this won’t have any influence on the team.”
“I won’t be influenced by what people say or write the squad is ready and confident this group is united and keen to win this competition everybody wants to play and it’s something I like to see in a squad.”
Cr7 also explained that the incident between himself and Manchester United teammate Bruno Fernandes was nothing worth noting as it was simply a joke he made about him being late to join the team.
He also share that the tense interaction between himself and Manchester City player João Cancelo, was him trying to console the defender who was already upset because of bad play by fellow country Joao Felix during training which was again taken out of context according to Ronaldo
“The ambition is really high therefore I have no doubt that this episode not only be what happened to me, but there will be other episodes involving other players involving training or something personal..these might shake the player himself but nothing will shake the squad” The forward concluded.
Portugal will kick off their World Cup bid against Ghana on Thursday, November 24 in Group H before facing Uruguay and South Korea on November 28 and December 2 respectively.
