Uruguay international Luis Suarez is set to continue his club career in South America after officially signing for Brazilian Serie A team Gremio on a free transfer.
The deal is set to run until the end of 2024 and comes just three months after re-joining his first club Uruguayan team Nacional also on a free transfer from La Liga team Atletico Madrid.
Suarez confirmed the deal via his social media account on Friday
Suarez wrote on Twitter: “Preparing for this beautiful challenge at Gremio, I’m excited to be there and enjoy it.”
The former Liverpool, and Barcelona player, 35, scored eight goals in 16 games during his second stint with the side, winning the Uruguayan championship.
A form Gremio will be hoping the striker can reproduce something close to that performance as a marquee signing.
Their first game of 2023 is set to be against Sao Luiz on January 17.
The club, based in the city of Porto Alegre, was promoted from Brazil’s Serie B in the 2022 season, which ended in November.
