A probe has been launched by the St Mary police into the murder of a 72-year-old businessman, Dellavale Banbury, who was fatally shot by armed assailants in Broadgate in the parish last evening.

It is understood that a motorist reported seeing occupants of a silver Toyota Probox motorcar firing shots at a silver Toyota pickup truck while travelling on Broadgate Main Road and summoned the police.

A team later responded and upon their arrival discovered the silver pickup truck over a precipice and subsequently called the Annotto Bay Fire Department for assistance.

In addition, the victim was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Furthermore, an undetermined amount of cash was found at the scene.

He was later transported to the Annotto Bay Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In the interim, the police are seeking the assistance of the public to come forward with information that will aid in the apprehension of the suspects involved in the ordeal.
