Jamaica international Leon Bailey could be absent for Bundesliga team Bayern Leverkusen in Tuesday’s DFB-Pokal third-round encounter against Essen.
According to coach Peter Bosz, the 23-year-old winger missed a recent training session after reporting sick and it was yet to be determined if he would be fit enough to return to the line-up. Despite the impressive run of fourth division team Essen, it remains to be seen whether Bosz will be willing to risk the player if he is not 100 percent, despite the team looking to recover from back-to-back losses.
While specifying the nature of the player’s illness, the coach was quick to point out that he was not afflicted with the dreaded COVID-19 coronavirus.
“We had a few ailing players from the game in Leipzig. It was a tough game. We have to see how it is with Moussa Diaby. He didn’t train yesterday. I don’t know whether he can train with today. Leon was sick. It is not Corona,”
Bosz explained.
The coach pointed out that for the player to be included in the squad any at all they had to at least complete one training session ahead of the match.
“With me, the players have to train the day before the game, otherwise they won’t be in the squad,”
he said.
