Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw continues to stamp her name in football folklore after breaking women’s Super League club Manchester City’s single-season scoring record following her double in the 2-1 Brighton and Hove Albion.

Shaw, who has been City women’s marque player all season, was again their talisman after scoring both goals, moving her tally to a club record 25 goals in just 22 games played, eclipsing the previous mark 24 by Nikita Parris in the 2018/19 season.

The record tumbled in the most dramatic of forms, being the 89th-minute match winner after Brighton’s Elisabeth Terrland’s 33rd-minute strike canceled Shaw’s 21st-minute opener.

Shaw has now scored a staggering 9 goals in her last three games in all competitions. Her brace coming on the heels following back-to-back hattricks in the FA Cup.

The Reggae Girlz captain also extends her league-leading to 15 goals from 15 games, four clear of her nearest rival Rachel Daley of Aston Villa- 11 goals.

The result pushes City to third in the standings on goal difference behind rival Manchester United, with both teams locked on 35 points.

Defending champions Chelsea are at the summit with 37 points with a game in hand.

Shaw is expected to extend her record further when City tackles Aston Villa in the FA Women’s Cup quarter-final on Sunday.
