Reigning Schools’ Challenge Quiz(SCQ) champion, St. Jago High made it back-to-back wins for title number seven after defeating Calabar High 34-31 in a pulsating grand finale on Tuesday night to lift the 2023 trophy.

It was a nerve-wracking encounter for St. Jago who entered the defining buzzer section trailing Calabar 21-25 after the first two sections.
Anxiety levels raised further after being docked two points following their first incorrect answer.

However, with their title on the line, the Spanish town-based school delivered a champion’s response as they gradually restored their opening score, before moving ahead in the encounter.

Calabar did make the final minute interesting after bringing the match within a point a few times, which looked likely to go down to the wire, with the scores at 32-31 in the final 10 seconds.

However, in the end, St. Jago showed more composure under pressure to extend their lead and going on to winning the trophy.
