Facey Commodity has been rocked by a massive fraud amounting to $160 million.
Reports are that the management of Facey, the Seprod Group called in the police to probe what was believed to be fraudulent activities being carried out by employees.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Fitz Bailey said investigations by the Jamaica Constabulary Force uncovered that between October 2021 and May 2022 approximately $160 million was stolen from the Seprod group.
The DCP stated that so far, 17 persons have been arrested, 14 of which have been charged.
DCP Bailey said; “Two IT employees manipulated the computer system to facilitate 24 other employees, route sale drivers and assistants who participated in the fraud by collecting goods from Seprod group warehouses and subsequently sold the goods and kept the proceeds.”
He further added that between April 12 and April 13, 2023, members of CTOC conducted special operations across Clarendon, St Catherine and the Corporate Area where the 17 suspects were arrested.
