Shaggy’s mega-hit ‘It Wasn’t Me’ featuring Rik Rok, continues to maintain its popularity almost 23 years after its release as it officially earned its fourth UK platinum certification.
The song, which was one of the lead singles from his diamond-selling album ‘Hot Shot,’ was officially Brit-certified four time platinum on Friday, according to the British Phonography Institute (BPI).
According to the BPI, the track which birthed the iconic slogan of deniability-“it wasn’t Me,” originally gained platinum status in the UK in 2001 before growing to Multi-Platinum certification in 2013.
It ‘Wasn’t Me’ later garnered its third UK-certified platinum plaque in 2018.
The single is his most successful track in the UK and leads a raft of several hits in the territory.
Classics such as ‘Boombastic’ and ‘Oh Carolina’ have also gained platinum certifications.
On the strength of ‘It Wasn’t Me’, the ‘Hot Shot’ album itself went three-times platinum in the UK and six-times platinum in the US.
It also gained multi-platinum status in other territories such as Denmark, France, Netherlands and Norway to name a few.
