The Saudi Pro League confirmed another major name that will be among its ranks next season following the announcement of Steven Gerrard as manager of league outfit Al-Ettifaq on Monday.
The announcement comes a month following reports that the former Liverpool and England midfielder had been invited to the country to “look at a potential offer” but opted not to take it up.
The move would be the first managerial post accepted by the Englishman since being sacked by English Premier League team Aston Villa last October after one season.
The details of the deal have however yet to be revealed by the club.
Gerrard’s pending arrival is the latest high-profile name to join the lucrative league in the oil-rich nation and the first one on the coaching side since its mass recruiting last year.
The Pro League has been making a massive push to raise its profile over the past eight months since the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo by Al Nassr ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
In recent months a slew of stars have since joined the league in ultra-lucrative deals to secure their services.
Reigning Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema, former Chelsea star N’Golo Kante, and club mate; former Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy have all committed their immediate futures to playing in the middle east.
