Women’s 200-metre champion Shericka Jackson underlined her dominance in the event, setting a Diamond League record on her way to victory at the Brussels event on Friday.

Jackson stopped the clock at 21.48 seconds, 0.07 seconds shy of her personal record, in a mesmerising display of endurance.

Jackson, who shared that the world record was a target this year, again proved that she is in that shape, with another sub-21.50s clocking to decimate the field in Brussels.

She finished well ahead of training mate Athonique Strachan of the Bahamas (22.33s) and the USA’s Jenna Prandini (22.47s), who was almost an entire second behind in third.

Jackson now holds the second and fourth fastest times ever over the distance.

The Jamaican had previously shown that the world record of 21.34s was within reach after scorching to a sizzling 21.41s in the final of the 200m World Championship on her way to gold in Budapest last month.

The win is Jackson’s fourth successive victory on the circuit, as she extends her lead in the Diamond League standings with a maximum of 32 points going into the final meet.

With the super-fast track at Eugene being the final stop of the League’s calendar, fireworks are expected when the Jamaican returns to the venue of her first World Championship triumph.
