With the Local Government Elections set for 2024, the People’s National Party, PNP was knocked hard as two of its former councillors in Westmoreland today crossed the floor to join the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).

In July, Ian Myles and Garfield James, of the Sheffield Division, and Lawton McKenzie of the Grange Hill division, who were elected on PNP tickets, resigned from the party declaring themselves as independent.

Thursday morning, both Councillors announced that they will no longer sit as independent members in the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation but as members of the JLP.

This now means the JLP has full leadership of Westmoreland with six councillors to the PNP’s five.

The Local Government elections are scheduled for February 2024.
