Ramone Watson walked away with the title of Digicel Rising Star Sunday night similar to 2019 when he walked away with the title of Champion for Jamaica Youth for Christ’s National Talents for Christ.
He is a 20-year-old show player at Sandals Montego Bay and an active member of Jamaica Youth for Christ (JYCF) Montego Bay.
According to Barrington Sergeant, JYCF Mobay director, “it was indeed a blessing to see and hear Ramone showing off his talent and pursuing his musical dreams.”
“Ramone has been active in the Mobay YFC since 2014 . He has been with our outreach teams (while he attended Ruseas high school and lived with his grandmother in Lucea, Hanover) He has been a staple on Montego Bay Gennesis since then,” Sergeant said.
Watson won a cash prize of $1.5 million, a smartphone and credit courtesy of Digicel.
Despite everyone seemingly expecting him to win, Watson encountered a nightmarish event last Friday when he was robbed of money he collected during a campaign event. The money was intended to purchase Digicel call credit in order to vote for him.
Nonetheless, he is the new Digicel rising star and now has his sights set on entering the American singing competition, The Voice, following in the footsteps of his mentor Tessanne Chin, who won that competition 10 years ago in 2013.
Meanwhile, 24-year-old Jhanelle ‘Lady J’ Thompson, secured the second spot winning six hundred thousand dollars, and 29-year-old Sashae Evans received four hundred thousand dollars. They both also received a smartphone and credit courtesy of the telecomms sponsor.
