Lakers star Lebron James continues to rack up achievements after becoming the first player in NBA history to score 39,000 points.
This achievement comes as the Lakers beat Utah Jazz 131-99 to maintain a perfect record in the new in-season tournament.
James, 38, who needed just five points to achieve that milestone, dropped 17 points and nine assists to go with his seven rebounds in a historic night for the four-time NBA champion.
Reflecting on his performance to the media James said, “I haven’t really had [a] chance to wrap my head around what it means, There’s been so many great players in this league since the beginning of time, and so many great scorers. To be able to be the first of anything is always pretty cool. A wild moment, for sure.”
The feat further solidifies his status as an all-time great, having previously broken Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record of 38,387 points in February to become the league’s new all-time leading scorer.
The result pushed the Lakers to their fifth consecutive victory as they qualified for the quarterfinal of the newly installed tournament.
James will have the chance to extend his record tonight when the Lakers welcome the Dallas Mavericks at the Crypto.Com Arena.
