Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton and health officials launched the ‘E-Care’ Electronic Health Records (EHR) System at May Pen Hospital on Thursday, January 2024.

According to the Minister, “This is a giant leap in our public health overhaul, modernizing service delivery with a swift switch to digital health records,” throughout the nation.

It is the full digitization of health records, that will help to reduce time spent to get medical care, this is as patients can expect faster access to test results and improved policy-making through better data.

Tufton says “Say goodbye to paper! E-Care brings real-time, paperless patient records, facilitating seamless information sharing among healthcare professionals.”

He explained that this initiative is part of Jamaica’s Health Systems Strengthening Programme funded by the IDB, and is only the beginning of a new era in healthcare efficiency and data security.

The EHR provides an electronic version of a patient’s medical history, including demographics, progress notes, problems, medications, vital signs, past medical history, immunizations, laboratory data, and radiology reports.
