Reggae Girlz and Manchester City striker Khadija “Bunny” Shaw continues to cement a strong legacy in women’s football after being named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Women’s Player of the Year.

Shaw, who is recovering from a broken leg, was announced as the winner on Friday.

The Jamaica International won the award with 53% of votes, beating fellow favourite Chelsea and England’s Lauren James into second.

Bunny’s output this season has been stratospheric for Man City, bagging 21 goals and 18 league games to become the club’s all-time leading scorer with 72 goals in only her second season.

The feat also saw her become only the second non-European player and 11th woman in Super League history to score at least 50 goals.

The win makes it a sweep for the club, with the winger Phil Foden winning the award for the men’s category.
