Men’s triple jump phenomenon Jaydon Hibbert, narrowly missed out on bagging a podium finish following a valiant fourth-place finish in a strong Triple Jump final at the Paris Olympics on Friday.

After getting the ok from the medical team to compete in the finals, the 19-year-old delivered a best effort of 17.61m in the second round which was just shy of the 17.64m bronze medal distance by Cuba’s Andy Diaz.

The top two medals were also decided by fine margins, as Portugal’s Pedro Pichardo claimed silver with 17.84m while Jordan Alejandro Diaz of Spain secured Gold just ahead with 17.86m.

Speaking to the media following the competition Hibbert expressed gratitude for the experience.

“It was a good championship, so firstly, I want to thank God for what He has done. To think that I almost boycotted the Olympics and now I am here today (Friday) standing on a fourth-place finish. I don’t think many 19-year-olds can say they came fourth at the Olympics so I am grateful,” SportsMax reports.

It’s the second major Championship for the precocious teen who also qualified for the finals at last year’s World Championships in Budapest Hungary.
