An Indian doctor is being accused of causing the death of a 15-year-old boy by operating on him while watching YouTube tutorials on how to carry out the procedure.

According to reports Ajit Kumar Puri, a doctor at the Ganpati Hospital in the Indian city of Saran, has been accused by the family of the deceased of lacking the required skills and competence to practise resulting in the untimely death of the teen.

It’s understood that the boy’s family brought him to the hospital last week following vomiting spells, where he was assessed and admitted.

It’s further reported that despite his symptoms improving Dr. Puri opted to operate on the boy to remove a gallstone which is said to have caused the vomiting.

The procedure is reported to have been done without the consent of the family, resulting in the sudden decline of the boy’s health. It was then that the doctor decided that he should be transferred to another hospital. The teen, however, died in transit with the doctor fleeing the scene.

“We admitted him and the vomiting stopped soon after. But the doctor Ajit Kumar Puri said he needed to be operated upon. He conducted the operation by watching videos on YouTube. My son died later,” the boy’s father told NDTV.

“The boy was in pain. When we asked the doctor why he was in pain, he snapped at us and asked if we were doctors,” said the teen’s grandfather speaking to the media.

“Later in the evening, the boy stopped breathing. He was revived (with CPR) and then rushed to Patna. He died on the way. They left the boy’s body on the stairs of the hospital and fled.”

A complaint against Dr Puri was later filed to the police as authorities await the autopsy results.

The doctor is reported to still be on the run leading police to suspect he was not a real practitioner as investigations continue.
