Reggae Girlz striker Shania Hayles registered a goal and an assist in a player-of-the-match performance for Newcastle Women, who beat Sheffield United 2-0 at Kingston Park Stadium in the Barclays Women’s Championship on Sunday.
Hayles, playing her first home game since joining Newcastle in the summer, was an immediate threat to the opposition, being involved in several early attacks, including setting up teammate Beth Lumsden for their ninth-minute opener.
The Reggae Girl later added her name to the score board following a powerful header at the goal mouth from a looping cross at the right flank into the box by teammate Lois Joel, making 2-0.
That goal was also Shania’s second in as many games for the lady Magpies, following her match-saving equaliser in their 1-1 draw against London City FC in last week’s league opener.
The result sees Newcastle move to sixth in the standings on four points from two games played.
