Liverpool maintained their lead atop the English Premier League standings following an eventful 2-1 win over Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday.

Goals from Mo Salal and Curtis Jones was enough to secure another crucial win at home for the Reds a as they continue to set the pace for the chasing pack.

Salah, who has been in spry form this season, showed excellent composure, converting a 29th-minute penalty, his eighth goal against his former club, to give the hosts a 1-0 lead, which held until halftime.

Chelsea hit back almost immediately following the resumption through a 48th-minute Nicholas Jackson equaliser to silence the Anfield masses.

Their celebrations lasted momentarily as Liverpool was again in front three minutes later. Curtis Jones was the hero as he latched on to a low Salah cross into the box before calmly dispatching his effort to make it 2-1.

That goal proved to be the decisive strike in the game as scores remained definitive following the final whistle.

The win, Liverpool’s fourth on the trot, sees them maintain their advantage in the standings, on 21 points one ahead of Manchester City, who endured a narrow 2-1 escape against Wolves on Sunday.
