A Maryland woman was convicted of first and second-degree murder after being found guilty of dismembering and grilling her mother following a dispute over stolen money and attempting to pin the crime on her daughters.

According to reports, the woman identified as Candace Craig, 46, was deemed guilty of the murder of Margaret Craig, 71, who prosecutors allege was the deadly outcome of her confronting her daughter about discrepancies in her bank account spanning several months.

A jury at the Prince George’s County court returned a verdict, less than an hour having sat through more than 30 witnesses and over 600 pieces of evidence.

Prosecutors alleged that Craig suffocated her mother using a trash bag in May 2023 in the victim’s bedroom at the home they shared.

It was further alleged that after Craig committed the crime, she then burned the body in the backyard and continued the heinous act of dismemberment with a chainsaw before grilling the parts to get rid of the evidence.

The gruesome act was uncovered after authorities were summoned to the location by concerned family members. Following the discovery, Craig attempted to blame two of her daughters, who have disabilities, for the murder of their grandmother.
