As the countdown to Sunday’s potential US ban on popular social media platform TikTok looms, many users in the states have flocked to Chinese alternative Rednote to protest its impending decommission in the country.

The App, which is reported to be the Chinese version of the Singaporean-created platform, has surged to the top of Apple Store’s most downloaded apps, adding to the anxious crucial week for its continued presence in the States.

TikTok’s ban was largely derived from national security concerns related to TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance.

Known as Xiaohongshu in China, RedNote is a social media platform that includes images, and short-form videos, similar to several features on TikTok.

American TikTokers who fear losing the platform have reporteldly encouraged their followers to join them in downloading RedNote to send a message to the U.S. government, and Meta, which owns the rival platform Instagram, stands to benefit from the absence of TikTok in the country, ABC reports.

It’s understood that while users wait to see whether the U.S. Supreme Court will grant TikTok an eleventh-hour reprieve, they plan to use RedNote in the event the ban is upheld.
