US President Donald Trump has announced a pause on recently imposed trade tariffs on several countries including Jamaica in the latest activity around the economic chess game by the states.

President Trump shared the update via his social media platform Truthsocial on Wednesday.

The update comes a week following a sweeping round of varying tariffs on all countries by the US with Jamaica being among the countries at the lower end of the spectrum with a 10% hit on exports.

While the pause may be a slight reprieve for many countries. China, however, was not among the beneficiaries. It instead saw its tariff raised to 125%, by President Trump with “immediate effect” as the trade war intensifies between both countries.
