Jamaica maintained its bid to retain the World U-20 women’s 100m crown after Alana Reid advanced to the event final in Lima Peru on Tuesday.

Reid, the second-fastest overall qualifier from the heats was again in cruise control, logging 11.44s to claim victory in the second semi-final over Nigeria’s Justina Tiana Eyakpobeyan who took the second automatic qualification in 11.50 seconds.

Reid, the two-time National Association for College Admission Counseling(NACAC) Games U-18 sprint Champion, will be aiming to deliver the country’s first medal of the championships when she lines up for Wednesday’s final.

The former Hydel stand-out, who also participated in the Olympics has shown excellent composure through the rounds and looks poised to extend Jamaica’s hold on the title, following Tia Clayton’s gold at the 2022 games in Cali, Colombia.
