Jamaica’s most competitively successful rallycross driver, Fraser McConnell, continues to fly the Jamaican flag high as he came out victorious in the Nitrocross series.
McConnell told SLEEK sports just how proud he is to be ‘repping’ Jamaica.
He said, “It is always such an honor to fly the Jamaican flag on the international stage with some of the best drivers in the world and to be putting the black green, and gold atop the step is such a special feeling.”
Recently, McConnell got his second win for the season, as he and his team were successful in Nitrocross in Phoenix this past weekend with a win in Round 4 and a second-place finish in Round 5.”
Winning was good but for him, it was the support of the people that did it for him, he said it was a “Sell out crowd with over 10,000 live spectators and you couldn’t help but see the fans waving their Jamaican flags. So safe to say, we are a crowd favorite!”
McConnell added, “This is what I have been dreaming of since I was a kid, so it is safe to say that I am living the dream!”
Rallycross driver started the season with a win in round one, however, rounds 2 & 3 followed with some technical issues which took McConnell out of the fight. He said, “We have managed to show that once the car holds up we are able to fight for wins.”
Now, while this is a major achievement, he is currently in fourth place in the Championship battle, only two points behind Andreas Bakkerud and 12 points ahead of Pastrana in the 10-event series.
They are only halfway through the 10-event championship, but McConnell says they “Are on the right track” to win the championship.
McConnell is now preparing for LA, which is one of his favorite tracks as he has “A great record at this track with three podium finishes, with one of them being a win.”
In the meantime, the rallycross driver says his team Dryer and Reinbold Racing have been working as best as they can to give him a strong package. With that in mind, McConnell’s attack plan is to be victorious, on the second weekend in December 2023.
