Jamaica’s Britany Anderson and Megan Tapper are through to the women’s 100m hurdles final, while Yanique Thompson crashed out in the semi-final at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games a short while ago.
Thompson, running from lane five in the first semi-final, was up fast but lost her rhythm when she clipped the fourth hurdle which threw her off balance forcing her to pull up.
That was the only Jamaican casualty, as World youth champion and World junior silver medallist Anderson showed class in what was a tense second semi-final which had a faulty start on three occasions.
However, when it eventually got underway, the 20-year-old Jamaican was smooth and fast over the 10-flight of hurdles, clocking a new personal best 12.40 seconds, beating World record holder Kendra Harrison.
Anderson’s previous best was 12.58s.
Meanwhile, national champion Megan Tapper, running from lane four in the third semi-final, was out fast but was beaten into second in 12.62s.
Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn clocked a new Olympic record 12.26s in victory.
The final is scheduled for 9:50 pm tonight.
