Legendary actress Angela Bassett scored another award for her critically acclaimed performance in the Black Panther franchise after being named Best Supporting Actress in a film at the Critics Choice Awards for Wakanda Forever on Sunday.

Bessette, who only days prior (January 10) created Marvel history, after earning the first Golden Globe Award for a film produced by the studio, in the same category, claimed her second award in a week for her role as ‘Queen Ramonda’ in the Black Panther sequel: Wakanda Forever.

The other nominees were Jessie Buckley (Women Talking), Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once), and Janelle Monáe (Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery).

Like she did at the Golden Globes, Bassett delivered a powerful acceptance speech with a tribute to the late Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, who played King T’Challa in the original film.

“thank you to Chadwick, for your love and light surrounding us, we couldn’t have made history, then and now, without you.”

In her brief speech, Bassette also gave a resounding shout-out to her cast, the crew, and fans for helping to show that black-led films can also be massive hits globally.

“We showed the world that we could create and lead a billion-dollar box-office success,” she said adding, “and my prayer is that that door remains open and the sky is the limit for other Black creators and storytellers around the world to join us.”
