Two-time World Cup Champions Argentina will be anxiously hunting a crucial rebound victory against Mexico on Saturday as they seek to preserve their chances of advancing to the next round of the tournament.

The South American giant who came into the tournament as a heavy favorite was stunned 2-1 by Saudi Arabia in their opening fixture and will need to at the very least to avoid a second defeat to maintain their chances of a second-round birth.

The fixture is a repeat of the 2010 World Cup round-of-16 game in South Africa, which saw Argentina under the guidance of the legendary Diego Maradona, triumph 3-1 on that occasion.

The South Americans of course, led by their talismanic captain Maradona coincidentally last lifted the trophy in Mexico during the 1986 tournament.

Lionel Messi who is playing that inspirational role for Argentina at this tournament will be hoping to galvanize his squad for a repeat of those performances.

In addition to saving their World Cup dream, the pain of having their 36-game unbeaten record snapped by Saudi Arabia, is expected to be an added impetuous to strengthen their push to advance in their title chase.

Mexico who drew 0-0 with Poland will also be seeking a positive result against Argentina as they hope to avenge their 2010 exit.

A win will most likely secure their passage however a drawn result will benefit the Central Americans more than South Americans going into their last games.
