Former National Premier League Champions, Arnett Gardens, got the better of fellow past winner Portmore United 2-1 today at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence, Kingston.

Arnett, who was coming off the back of a defeat, started a bit timid and unconfident which reflected in their defense as they went behind as early as the seventh minute courtesy of Shai Smith’s goal.

That seemed to be impetuous to spur the ‘Junglists’ to life as they hit back seven minutes later with Ronaldo Cephas in minute 14, as the momentum swayed in favour of the Kingston-based team.

That pressure was maintained throughout the half and they were rewarded before the break as Kimani Arbouine gave Arnett the lead in the 45th as the end 2-1.

Portmore came out more purposeful in the second half and created more chances, however, the ‘Junglists’ remained resolute in earning their first point of the season and in the end claimed all three as the second half ended how it started, 2-1 in their favor.

The result moves them to fourth with three points from two games played, while Portmore fall to ninth on a solitary point after two having drawn with Tivoli in their opening fixture.
