Former men’s 100m World record holder Asafa Powell seems to be preparing for a comeback after announcing his presence at the upcoming USATF Bermuda Grand Prix, scheduled for May 21 at the Flora Duffy Stadium.
Asafa was among a handful of track stars including 200m World Champion Noah Lyles and Olympic Champion Andre DeGrasse, who confirmed their participation during a promotional video for the meet.
While the specifics of Powell’s participation were not stated, the promotional video implies that the former two-time 100m record holder will line up for the event in Bermuda.
Should he take the blocks on Sunday, it will bring an end to a brief retirement by the World and Olympic relay gold medalist who announced his departure from the sport via Twitter days after celebrating his 40th birthday party, last November.
Asafa’s last competitive meet came on May 8, 2021, at the Jamaica qualification time trial at GC Foster College, Spanish Town, as per IAAF.
