Global Sprint Legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is set to be further immortalised following the announced renaming of Ashoka Road in her childhood community of Waterhouse, to Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Drive.

Councillor for the Waterhouse Division, Byron Clarke, moved the resolution during Tuesday’s meeting of the council at the Marcus Garvey Council Chamber, 24 Church Street, downtown Kingston, the Jamaica Information Service(JIS) reports.

According to reports, the honour moves to recognise Fraser-Pryce’s outstanding athletics achievements and “unwavering dedication and contribution” to the hometown of the Waterhouse community and the wider Jamaica.

The five-time World Champion spent her childhood in the Kingston community before she rose to international prominence and track legend spurred on by the strong support of her family.

In hailing the Two-time Olympic champion, Councillor Byron expressed that Mrs Fraser-Pryce was “more than deserving of this honour”, adding that it will also be a symbol of inspiration for future generations, as per JIS.

“As the local representative for the division, I recognise and memorialise Mrs. Fraser-Pryce for her determination, commitment, resilience, patriotic favour and willingness to serve her country and community. She embraces life with a passion of purpose through hard work, philosophy and an unwavering spirit.”

“Her greatness and worthiness for this recognition cannot be defined solely on the basis of her accomplishment on the track; her true value transcends athleticism,” he added
