Bail application for Matthew Hyde postponed

Matthew Hyde, the 20-year-old student accused of torturing his girlfriend on the University of the West Indies, Mona campus, bail application has been postponed until next week.

Hyde is due back in court on Monday, March 27.

The bail application is deferred until Monday as the presiding Judge fell ill and the lead defence attorney, King’s Counsel, Peter Champagnie had other court matters to attend.

Matthew Hyde is charged with assault occasioning grievous and actual bodily harm, malicious communication and false imprisonment.

Reports are that some time in February, Hyde held his alleged girlfriend, a 19 year old woman captive in his dorm room. The young woman was reportedly tortured while in captivity. Police report states that Hyde repeatedly beat and burned her with a clothes iron all over her body.
